Sweet Illicit Love and Sexual Coincidences - Chapter 18.3
Chapter 18 Part 3
When they were about to go through the underpass, Ding Yan abruptly asked, “Back then, why did you transfer from the Marketing Department to the System Integration Department?”
Su Nanxing didn’t speak and didn’t know what to say.
But Ding Yan didn’t give her a chance to remain silent. He asked, “Is it because you saw it?”
They didn’t say it directly.
Su Nanxing was developing well in the Marketing Department. If Ding Yan continued to value her work and she didn’t transfer to the System Integration Department, she might have become the industry director earlier.
But Su Nanxing just gave up on her development in the Marketing Department and went to the System Integration Department to start over again.
Ding Yan said indifferently, “Even If you didn’t transfer, you didn’t have to think too much of it.”
The emotions of a grown man were not that impulsive.
He and his ex-wife were the typical model marriage from the second generation within the company. They inherited the network their parents left to them, and easily flourished in the company like the wind creating the waves. But just like how their marriage was an exchange of benefits, they played their own roles separately after marriage. His ex-wife rarely went to L Province when she worked at C Provincial Company. In the end, even their phone calls were mainly to talk about business.
Ding Yan felt that a marriage like that was meaningless. However, he never mentioned a divorce. When his wife became a Finance Manager in C Provincial Company, she brought it up. She probably felt that she had already received enough benefits from the marriage, so Ding Yan agreed to it.
Thus, this second-generation marriage to exchange benefits came to an end.
When he met Su Nanxing, she was only 23 years old at that time. She was bright and loved to laugh; she worked hard and was full of drive. When she worked overtime until it was very late, she would walk around being silly and cheer herself up with: “You can do it, you have to work hard.” Her eyes were full of light when she smiled.
Her hardworking appearance made Ding Yan a little attracted to her.
But Ding Yan knew what appropriate behavior was and could hold back his intentions.
But he always liked to glance at her a few times to see her be energetic and try hard. It was as if his tranquil life was touched with a bit of energy.
Later on, the Marketing Department organized a mountain hiking activity. Su Nanxing happened to have her period that day. After climbing halfway up the mountain, she fell behind from the team.
Perhaps it was because they were not in their company environment that day, so Ding Yan indulged in his thoughts a bit and found an excuse to go back and look for Su Nanxing.
When he found her, he saw her sitting on the stone steps with her arms around her knees like a small rolled up ball. She looked up at him, her eyes watery.
Ding Yan thought that maybe the emotions in his eyes were not that hidden, or his tone was too gentle at that time and was unlike the way an ordinary leader treated his subordinates, so the clever Su Nanxing saw through him. Not long after that, she was transferred to the Department and Collection Department.
Ding Yan knew and she must have known too.
Moreover, she deliberately avoided contact with him after she was transferred to the System Integration Department. It made him very unhappy. When he had the chance to see her, she called him “Manager Ding”, and he would give a slight nod and leave.
He saw her go from the bright girl in the Marketing Department to the Director Su, who was dressed in a gray loose workwear in the System Integration Department. She assimilated well into the humble atmosphere of the state-owned enterprise. People did not criticize her and her work was excellent. Yet, her eyes were still full of energy.
Just like that, Ding Yan thought.
Two years went by. He was so busy at work and his emotions had long since faded.
How long could a grown man’s affection last?
At this moment, he was facing the present Su Nanxing, the one from tonight because she had to join the dinner. Thus, she didn’t wear loose workwear. Instead, she wore a simple white t-shirt and jeans; and her hair was in a ponytail and did not wear makeup, just like when she was in the Marketing Department.
Perhaps he could finally take the initiative on his feelings because he was finally free; or perhaps it was the alcohol, the moonlight that was too beautiful, and the extremely comfortable sea breeze. Ding Yan felt that his rational thoughts were becoming a bit impulsive tonight. But now that he had asked about it, he didn’t regret it.
Ding Yan sighed faintly. “You don’t have to think too much about it…”
Su Nanxing did not look up, but still gave a soft “mhm”, which could be regarded as her reply to everything without saying anything else.
“From now on, you don’t have to avoid me.”
“It was too deliberate.” The tone of these words had a little kindness to it. Even at this time, Ding Yan never made it hard for people.
Su Nanxing couldn’t help but laugh. She felt embarrassed and a little silly for thinking what she had done was not obvious, when it was actually clear to him.
This time she gave a clearer answer: “Okay.”
Ding Yan gave a smile.
Her smile was still the same as before, with her eyes full of light.
